
Wow. How does a little Perth firm get to design an awesome luxury resort in southern India? Somehow Grounds Kent have managed it, and its quite a neat design. Being able to use such a range of local materials and natural finishes must be great. The connection to exterior spaces and seeming privacy within luxury spaces has such a nice feel.

Architecture & Design have featured an article with AECOM’s Jon Shinkfield regarding the work they are doing to reinvigorate aboriginal communities. It all started with some pro-bono work and UWA architecture student participation and has developed into a worthwhile series of projects that can hopefully be replicated throughout the state.
Just seen ad ad for tomorrow night’s (Thursday’s) Today Tonight show, for those who get home from work in time to watch it! They are featuring the Fiona Stanley Hospital construction, may be an interesting one to watch. I heard the other day that the part of this structure that is already built doesn’t include any of the main services like hydraulic, electrical etc, and these will all have to be cored through. Something to do with the staging…interesting…it may just be a rumour but that’s the word on the street!

Silver Thomas Hanley have joined up with Adelaide-based Cheesman Architects to plan the major Stage C redevelopment of SA’s Lyell McEwin Hospital, a $200 million project, including:
- A new acute inpatient building – with helipad – with room for 120 patients
- Three new operating theatres
- Facilities for increased outpatient and allied health services,
- An expanded Women’s Health Centre (to support more birthing and neonatal care).
- Areas for research, clinical offices and related support services
- A new multi-deck car park (already being built)
