DET High Schools Awarded

The Department of Education & Training has finally awarded its Architectural Tender for their new big high schools. And once again, despite the 20-odd entries, it seems the usual suspects have won again: Taylor Robinson, Donaldson + Warn, HASSELL, CH&BW and JCY. The four schools are Baldivis Senior High School, Atwell College, Ashdale Secondary College and Bullsbrook District High School. (And no, I’m not sure why there are four projects and five architects!) The costs of the projects are not on the Tenders WA website, but based on the architects fees, I’d assume most of the projects are around the $20 – $30 million mark.

I never really understand the point of going to tender if you just pick the same firms again and again…considering the time it takes to put together a tender, I can see why some firms might not bother. Shame, it would have been interesting to see what some of the others could have done with these projects, with some fresh eyes, but well done to those five, and we look forward to seeing what you come up with.
