2010 National Architecture Conference

Next year’s Conference is shaping up to be very exciting – and finally more emphasis on sustainability and practicality, it appears, due to the efforts of Creative Director, Melanie Dodd.

Apparently this is in response to the current architectural culture of restriction, with architects needing to create more innovative and practical solutions to our built environment.Architects need to be prepared for new approaches to practice, including collaboration and lateral thinking.

The four main themes are people, things, living and cities. The Conference intends to showcase local and international practitioners with a fresh outlook on practice and our unique position within the community.

“These practitioners are inventing their own projects and systems of operating: they don’t wait for conventional clients, commissions or budget but instead see opportunity or necessity as their client,” Dodd said.

I for one, think it sounds like a great, practical base and I’m looking forward to attending.
