Commonwealth govt’s plan for cities

The Council of Australian Governments has demanded all Australian capital cities provide a 30-year plan for the development of their city, to plan for infrastructure and growth. Initial reports are due in 2011, with more detailed reports for 2012 (if the govt’s still in by then!) This plan will then be used as a basis for frederal government spending for each city. The plans will be publicly available and “States will be required to provide planned, evidence-based land release to improve housing affordability, better transport planning to tackle urban congestion, and new urban development to be better linked to transport, jobs and services.”

Now I’m all for plans, but 30 years will be interesting. What do you think a plan for Perth would have looked like in 1980? Interesting to see how much flexibility will be allowed for real-life changes such as population explosions from mining and industry.
