Cathedral Square Project Stalled

CityVision‘s 19-year-old proposal for development at Cathedral Square has now been stalled after the Anglican Church pulled out of the development plan, and the proposed cost just got too much for the Perth City Council. Cathedral Square is the area adjacent to the newly renovated St George’s Cathedral on Hay St (not St Mary’s up at Victoria Square). From what I can understand, the church owns the Law Chambers Building and, although planned to demolish it and build a 12-storey office building in its place, it relies on the rent from the building and just couldn’t afford to have it out of action, even if the City of Perth could afford to add in $81 million for the redevelopment (which they can’t).
