The Waterbank in East Perth

Expressions of Interest are now open for the development of ‘Waterbank’ – the riverfront area of the 40 hectare Riverbank site in East Perth. The site is basically between the Causeway and Trinity College, extending down to the river. This is actually a pretty cool site, so I hope someone great is found to bring this to fruition – the proponent should be selected by the middle of next year, so fingers crossed. Waterbank will be a mixed use development of residential, commercial and public land use, with ‘finger wharves’ and boardwalks creating access to the river front. Most buildings are planned for a maximum of eight storeys, with some taller and one up to thirty storeys. I like that there seems to be importance placed on the interaction with the external landscape, with all residential units required to have decent sized balconies or courtyards, which I think is so vital in our fantastic Perth climate. There is also a large landscaped park area in the middle of the site. All buildings must be either 5 star or 6 star Green Star rated. The design guidelines are actually quite interesting. More info on the project here.
