Another Seminar on the 19th August

The Institute is running a Refuel session on Monday the 19th August on ‘Fire Safety Solutions Using Timber’. According to the Institute ‘The presentation will provide a brief overview of the advantages and limitations of timber with respect to fire safety followed by a series of examples showing how to retain design freedom whilst satisfying fire safety requirements.’ It will be presented by Paul England, a Director of EFT Consulting and is at 5:30/7:30pm.

Costs are: Member $72; A+ / Practice Member $65; Non Member $105; Graduate Member $40; SONA Member $20; Student Non Member $30.

    We also will be running a Commercial Workshop for the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) presented by Sustainability House Commercial Manager – Sebastian Carr, on Monday 12 August 2013 starting at 5:30 pm, to be held on the Western Australian Chapter in 33 Broadway, Nedlands, WA 6009. You will earn 2 CPD points for attending.

    The main topic will be Green Seams : Energy Efficiency Compliance for New Work to Existing Commercial Buildings.

    The objective of this workshop is to promote awareness of the Application of Energy efficiency provisions to for new work associated with Existing Class 2 to 9 Buildings. The session focuses on the intent of the building code and Alternative Solutions, specifically Verification Method JV3 which “provides flexibility where the prescriptive DTS Provisions are considered sometimes too rigid or do not work for certain building design

    Focus Topics- BCA Energy Efficiency Provisions regarding:

    • Change of building class
    • Principles with respect to existing buildings
    • Performance Requirements
    • Verification Methods- JV3
    • Glazing
    • Addressing the clause “to the degree necessary”
    • Cost effective compliance options
