Someone’s gotta do it: Obligations and avoiding risk when terminating an employee

Employment lawyer Shannon Walker will present on how best to manage the termination of an employee’s employment.

The presentation will examine what requirements you need to fulfill before terminating an employee, what legislative and contractual obligations are owed to an employee on termination or redundancy and how to minimise risk and avoid litigation.

Recent case law on unfair and unlawful dismissal will be reviewed to provide an indication of what not to do when terminating an employee.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Identifying appropriate reasons for terminating an employee;
  • Understanding what obligations are owed to an employee when ending their employment; and
  • Minimising risk when terminating employees.
